The plague

For the past few days I've been dealing with the plague. Actually, it's a mild case of whooping cough. We caught it early so we were able to hit it hard with medication and keep it from getting worse. Definitely not a chest infection or I'd be feeling a lot better than I am right now. Geisha has been keeping me company but is a terrible nursemaid. At least she doesn't mind all the sitting around on the couch.
I had to miss a day of work and have a note excusing me from work tomorrow but I might go in anyways. I haven't had a fever in over 24 hours so that's a good thing. I'm still really tired though and today I've been having issues with getting dizzy pretty easily. The coughing fits aren't as bad either. I still plan to take it easy today. Let's see how the day progresses and we'll figure out if work is an option later.
Unfortunately, I was unable to participate in the 10k I had been invited to. That really bummed me out as I was really looking forward to it. Oh well. I'll see about signing up for the next one later this year. :-)
The biggest thing that is bumming me out right now is the fact that I haven't been able to spend time with anyone. I'm a people person. I thrive on being around people. Having been stuck at home for three days now, with no interaction with anyone, has made me a little depressed. Probably another reason why I want to go back to work (even though I'll be working 6 days in a row).
Alright, time for a nap. Hope you all have a great day!  :-)

Tough day

Yesterday ended up being a tough day. After work, I had a memorial service to go to for a very dear friend of mine. Her death was very unexpected as she and her mother never told anyone that she was in the hospital. Kimberly caught a blood infection after having heart valve surgery.  Unfortunately, her body just couldn't fight off the infection and, a few days before Christmas, she passed away.

Mom and I managed to hold it together for most of the service but, in the end, we were both having to clean up our runny make-up.

Kimberly was such a beautiful person. She was smart, sassy, spunky, didn't sugar coat anything, would tell it like it is, but would do just about anything for anyone. She would go above and beyond what was ever asked of her, always wanting to do the best job she could do. She was someone that you could always rely on.

She had a strong love for Emblem Club, art, and the Queen Mary Luxury Liner, and could probably be seen as an expert in all three areas. She was commited to those she loved and the work that she did.

Once she accepted you as a friend, you were a friend for life. If you ask for Kimberly's opinion, then don't be upset when she tells it to you like it is! She's only being honest because she wants what's best for you. Her caring heart and nature seemed to be in contrast with her brash personality but that mix made her unique and genuine.

Kimberly was more than just a friend to me, she was my sister as well. We called each other "brats" but it was out of love and affection. We were the brats of Emblem! No matter how much time had passed between conversations and meet-ups, we were able to pick things up as if no time had passed at all. Even though we didn't talk as much as I would have liked, I thought about her often. I was so proud of her, her accomplishments, and the support she showed her mother, Jacki, through her Emblem Club career.

Kimberly was and will always be an amazing woman. I love you and miss you much, my sister!

First post

Well, I guess this is my first ever post for my first ever blog! Thank you to the talented Laura Gray at Redshirt Design for the awesome job you did creating this blog for me and the pups!

I guess I should tell you all a little bit about myself. My name is Liz! I have lived in Orange County, CA my whole life. I'm a very outgoing and caring person, who loves to do things for those around her but my type A personality came cause me to come off as a bit** sometimes. I work as a Public Safety Dispatcher and love working in law enforcement. Some things I enjoy include running, singing, participating in the SCA, hiking, camping, hanging out with friends, coffee, sleep, video/computer games, and spending time with my dogs. I also have an annual pass to Disneyland in which my friends and I love to take silly pictures on the rides.

My two dogs are my furry kids! I have my little old man, Dutch, and my princess, Geisha. Dutch is a 12 year old, jack russel mix. He is brown in color with a dark stripe running up his back. He used to have a little white, beatnik goatee when he was a pup but now he has raccoon eyes from all the white on his face. He is a very happy, sociable old man whom I adopted 11 years ago from the Riverside Animal Shelter. Currently, Dutch lives with my mom as he is too old to climb the stairs of my apartment. I think he likes not having Geisha around all the time! lol. Geisha is definitely her namesake. She is an obnoxious, 3 year old princess who will only do what she's told if she wants to. Geisha was a stray I found wandering the streets of San Bernardino. Unfortunately, Geisha is a bit neurotic and very protective. She does not get along very well with other dogs and is slow to warm up to people. Once you've been accepted by her, though, she will show you unbelievable protection and devotion.

This blog will be a mish mosh of me, my pets, and our adventures! Let's see where the road will take us!  :)
